Tent of Tomorrow
So Ansley and I decided to get out of the house, and explore the outdoors … But exploring the outdoors in this frigid weather was not my idea of exploration. Nonetheless, we went out and headed towards Flushing Corona Park, Queens, near where I live. I had always wondered and asked my self “what were those towers used for? Why are they there? Why haven’t they taken it down? Are they of any use?” etc etc. Everyone that may know Flushing Meadows Park, or passed by it, always seem to be focused on the globe, aka Unisphere image (below).
But what about those two towers?! I decide to do “Google it” and “Wiki it”, since those are my two source of fast information. I don’t have the time to go to a library (which i highly suggest for young kids to attend in their free time, reading a book is priceless). The three Towers are called “Tent of Tomorrow” and are also know as The New York State Pavilion, designed by Philip Johnson. The Unisphere and the observation towers were the highlight of what it was back then the New York World’s Fair, an event categorized as “the third largest event in the world … after the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games.”
Even thought i was ” the largest World’s Fair to be held in the United States” (as per wikipedia.com), the fair it self lost money, due to mismanagement. It’s interesting to go back in time through pictures and see how these architectures were before they morphed to what they are today.
